Working with Parents

Caring for someone else’s children is a job which has a huge responsibility, working in partnership with parents is key to making it a success. We always welcome families into our establishment and spend as much time as I can with them before children start at my setting so that we become a familiar face for both the parents and children. We work with all parents and carers to meet the needs of their children and wishes with regard to values, beliefs, practices and behaviour management.

We aim to form a good relationship with parents so that information regarding your child can be exchanged easily. Our policies and procedures will be shown to you at our initial meeting and all relevant forms that we need you to sign will be completed at our second meeting. We are always available for discussion regarding your child and any information on your child’s activities throughout the day, progress, development and goals they achieve will always be passed to you by means of a daily diary, it will also include any food eaten and sleep patterns, etc. Parents are recognised as the prime carers of their child and we will never try to take over the role of the parents/carers.

We always welcome comments and suggestions as this helps improve my childcare service. We use a contact book/diary for parents to see what their child has been up to during the day, this includes pictures, work they have done and any information parents need at the end of the day.
We also put together an individual learning diary for every child, recording their development and progression through the EYFS.
