Observation Policy, Care, Learning and Play

Guidance to the Foundation Stage Curriculum states:
Practitioners must be able to observe and respond appropriately to children.

This principle requires practitioners to observe children and respond appropriately to help them make progress. This is demonstrated when practitioners;

  • Make systematic observations and assessment of each child’s achievements, interests and learning styles,
  • Use these observations and assessments to identify learning priorities and plan relevant and motivating learning experiences for each child
  • Match their observations to the expectations of the early learning goals’

We will be using the Early Years Foundation Stage standards to support our work.
We will make regular observations on your child, using different mediums, for example, tick lists, photographs and written observations.
Using this information we will link it to where the child is developmentally within the EYFS. This is not designed to be plotting what the child can and can’t do, as every child is an individual and therefore progresses at different rates. It is designed to then be able to plot the best steps to encourage your child to the next developmental level depending on their existing ability. This then allows us to individually plan the next activity which your child will enjoy and also allow them to achieve the steps towards the early years developmental goals which your child should be on the way to achieving by the time they are at the end of the reception year.

All observations will remain confidential, you are welcome to see copies of any of the observations we make for your child.

CARE, LEARNING AND PLAY POLICY

Children learn when they are in a safe and caring environment where they are stimulated through play.
Babies and young children develop best when they are in a caring relationship with an adult. A baby will learn to walk faster when they have a safe pair of arms to walk towards and learn to talk when they have an adult listening and responding to them. We will strive to provide your child with an environment that will be caring, fun and stimulating. We will follow and implement ideas from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
We will provide activities that support children(s):

  • Physical Development.
  • Personal social and Emotional Development.
  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy.
  • Mathematics.
  • Understanding the World.
  • Expressive Arts and Design.
